Google Mail is becoming Gmail How it will affect google mail account?
Recently Google mail has changed to Gmail in Germany. But this service was already altered in the United Kingdom in year 2010. From now onwards whoever wants to register a new email id with Google will get @gmail.com address instead of @googlemail.com.
If you previously make use of Google Mail and would desire an @gmail.com address, you have the choice to alter to the similar @gmail.com username. If you make this address change, it will only change your address; all features will remain same like your account settings, contacts and active mail will not change and any mail sent to your old @googlemail.com address will automatically be sent on to your new @Gmail address.
If you would wish to amend your @googlemail.com address to @gmail.com, just click "switch to @gmail.com" in the "Accounts and Import" tab in your Gmail Settings (this link will only appear if you're entitled to modify your address).
